Think like a designer: Make 3D models of molecules

Why is it important to understand that compounds around us are made up of atoms and molecules? The way molecules bond and the chemical reaction of those bonds affect living things all around us, including the design of products, systems, and processes.

Get creative with design in class

In this project, you will use Autodesk® 123D® Design to represent molecular models and the associated bonds through the process of representing sodium stearate, a common component of soap. The same process for modeling can subsequently be used to describe any of the myriad compounds that exist or have yet to be created.

Beginner

Make 3D models of molecules to understand their structure.
